Plans for the proposed new Filmhouse reveal that the £60m 'Temple of Film' will include a rooftop screen and will transform Festival Square into a hub for the city's winter and summer events.
Situated between the Sheraton Hotel and Usher Hall, the Richard Murphy designed structure would include an events space, five-screen cinema, conference facilities and a gorgeous rooftop area with views of Edinburgh Castle.
Architect, Richard Murphy noted, "it is an acknowledgement that film is the only art form without its 'temple' in the city."
It is projected that the development—which if agreed upon would be completed by 2025—would also see the square playing host to outdoor art exhibitions, major film premieres and expanded outdoor seating areas for neighbouring businesses like Brewdog.
